Charlie Maurer is a graduating senior in the Sports Production and Media Program at Ball State University . During his tenure as both a high school and collegiate student broadcaster, he has served as a play-by-play announcer (television and radio combined) for over 300 games across 7 different sports, including 50 ESPN+ productions.

He served as the Voice of the Ball State Women’s Basketball Team for Learfield IMG, the Bismarck Larks Summer Collegiate Baseball Team for the Northwoods League and the Carmel High School Greyhound Football team for WHJE.

Additionally, he has served in various other roles covering almost every aspect of television and radio broadcasting, including: side-line reporting, color commentating, live show hosting, producing and editing. He has produced numerous feature and full-length sports documentaries and has served in a professional capacity as broadcast support personnel for CBS, ESPN and Westwood One.

Besides his talent for sports broadcasting, Charlie is a natural-born leader and true team player. He has served as Ball State Sports Link Student Leadership Council Member, Ball State Sports Link Digital Radio Director and WHJE Sports Radio Director. Most recently, he was invited to participate in a collaborative immersive cooperative (Transatlantic Storytelling) with Cardiff Metropolitan University in Wales, which resulted in multiple feature-length stories and one full-length documentary.

Charlie in his free time enjoys playing golf, watching movies, and exploring the outdoors. More times than not, he is likely watching his favorite teams in action on television.

He has received state-wide and national recognition through various awards including:

  • STAA Jim Nantz Award and All-America Program, 2nd Team All-American and Top-10 Collegiate Broadcaster, 2023

  • National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (The Emmys), Best College Live Sporting Event Broadcast, 2024

  • Indiana Association of Student Broadcasters, Best Sports Coverage (football), 2024

  • Broadcaster Education Association, National Runner-up Best Collegiate Play by Play, 2022

  • Broadcaster of the Year, Northwoods League, 2022
